1. Plastic Bin ( 12 liters for dwarf, 20 liters or more for Syrians ) You can go all the way with the sizes if you want but this suggestion is the minimum so that your pet with have enough space to play and re-create.
2. Mesh Wire. Make sure its not the thinner version that they will be able to bite and destroy it.
3. Rivets or Nut and Bolt
4. Washers
Tools:
1. Wire Cutter
2. Cutter
3. Ruler
4. Drill or Soldering Iron
Optional:
Riveter and Anti Rust or Lubricating Spray
This is for my Dwarf Hamster bin setup. I suggest MEGABOX brand becuase
1. They are not brittle.
2. They have a wider and flatter base.
3. Cheaper
I hate my bins to have those brand Labels.. I remove it pretty easily with Lubricating spray. (looks cleaner)
Make sure that your opening is at least 2 inched from the base. THIS IS IMPORTANT.
The bedding will not overflow above 2 inches ( or at least only a few will leak out )
Gently cut the measured opening
Place the wire mesh to the opening. Make sure to add an extra cells both on horizontal and vertical part.
Solder or drill the corners. Make sure its not bigger than the rivet heads.
Results.. NOTE TO REMEMBER: Place the screen inside and not the outside part. Hamster will bite the screen and will not penetrate because its the metal mesh screen and not the plastic.
Rivets! You can use washers to support the screen or 5 cents coins. Washers cost more or less 1php. I use 1/8 rivets.
You can also use Nuts and Bolts with washers which is fine and have the advantage of disassembly but it would be costly.
Placing of rivets.
The finish product!
